Bio of Vice Chairperson Jeongryeol Lee
Mr. Jeongryeol Lee has been the Vice Chairperson of the Republic of Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) since November 17, 2025.

Vice Chairperson Lee is a policy expert with more than 30 years of experience spanning administrative operations and policy planning, leading major initiatives in government digitalization and public-sector innovation.

He led the government’s digital transformation as the Director for Informatization at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and as the Director-General of Government Innovation, he oversaw the government innovation policies. His career also includes serving as Counsellor for Local Government Cooperation at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Japan and as Director-General for Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Personnel Management.

Mr. Lee joined the PIPC in December 2020 and served as Director-General for Personal Information Policy and the Secretary General.

During his tenure as Secretary General (Dec. 2022 – Nov. 2025), Vice Chairperson Lee declared the “world’s first full implementation of the MyData system”, emphasizing the realization of individuals’ right to informational self-determination. He also presented the PIPC’s national vision of “Safe Personal Data, Trusted AI”, setting forth six key priorities for the upcoming digital era, by launching the Big Tech Litigation Team and expanding the use of pseudonymized data.

Mr. Lee holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Kyung Hee University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom.
